Before I Engage With the World

Before I Engage With the World

Before I engage – This morning I noticed something important.

My internal voice is often angry.

Not calm.
Not supportive.
Not kind.
Not encouraging.

Angry.

Ready for a fight.
Looking for a problem.
Preparing to defend, attack, argue, prove, protect.

For a long time, I think I believed this voice was just me. My normal state. My way of moving through life. But this morning I saw it more clearly. It is not all of me. It is a pattern. A protective voice. A tension system. A body prepared for threat, even when no threat is present.

And when I noticed it, I began to soften it.

Not silence it.
Not fight it.
Not cover it with forced positivity.

Just soften.

As I softened the internal voice, I could feel my body respond.

First my temples.
Then the front of my head.
Then my jaw.
Then my shoulders.
Then my hips, gently moving while sitting or standing, allowing tension to release.

A small movement.
A softer voice.
A calmer body.

This feels like a huge shift.

It also reminded me of something I once practised deeply while living in Morocco. Each day, when I stepped out into the world, I would ask myself:

What would my best day version act like today?
What would he feel?
How would he move?
How would he engage with the world and other people?

For a while, I lived from that place every day.

Not perfectly. Not without difficulty. But with intention.

Then life became heavier. Less connection. Less ease. More stress. More pressure. More conflict. More internal noise. Slowly, the path became harder to see.

But this morning, I remembered.

The path is still there.

The best day path is not about pretending life is easy. It is not about forcing happiness or denying pain. It is not about being positive for the sake of being positive.

It begins much closer than that.

It begins before I speak.
Before I react.
Before I message.
Before I step outside.
Before I meet the world.

It begins with how I meet myself.

Before I engage with the world, I soften the voice within me.

That is the reset.

A pause.
A breath.
A softening of the face.
A release of the jaw.
A drop of the shoulders.
A gentle movement through the hips.
A return to the body.

Then I can choose again.

Maybe I still feel pain.
Maybe I still feel grief.
Maybe anger is still nearby.
Maybe the day is still difficult.

But I do not have to enter the world already armed for battle.

I can soften first.

Engage with myself first.
Then engage with the world.

And maybe, from that calmer place, life begins to meet me differently. Maybe conversations soften. Maybe connection becomes easier. Maybe people feel less like threats and more like people. Maybe the world becomes less something to fight, and more something to meet.

Not always.
Not perfectly.
Not every time.

But enough to return.

This is the path.

The best day path.

One relaxing step at a time.

Best Day Reset

10 seconds

• Drop your shoulders. Relax your jaw.
• One slow inhale (a little deeper if it feels good).
• One long, controlled exhale.
• Ask: “What would my best self do next?”
• Do the smallest version of that — calmly.

If you have 30 seconds

• Take 3 long exhales.
• On each exhale, think: “Best day.”
